Weâ??ve all heard the line â??get paid to shopâ?? before. Normally itâ??s attached to a scam or spam mail. Recently I was out with a group of ladies and one of them introduced me to a new app called ShopKick. Being the app junkie that I am, I had to download it and see what she was talking about.
ShopKick promotes itself as â??The first mobile app that gives you rewards and offers simply for walking into storesâ??. That caught my attention, especially since I have my annual ladies only shopping weekend coming up.
It seems pretty simple to use. I downloaded the app and then signed in using my Facebook account. Thereâ??s an option to create an account as well so you donâ??t have to use your Facebook account if you prefer not to or donâ??t have one.
There are a few ways that you can earn points using this app.
1. Walk In. Thatâ??s rightâ?¦ you just have to have your GPS turned on in your phone settings and simply walk into a participating store.
2. Scans. This is almost like a scavenger hunt. It lists items and you have to locate them and scan them with your phone. This application uses the camera on your smart phone to read the UPC code.
3. Purchases. You can connect a credit card to the app and when you make purchases at participating stores you earn points.
4. Find Bonus Kicks. Look through the listings on the app and when you get to a box that has arrows on the side, scroll through it and look for an envelope. When you click it, you get a bonus point.
While this is an app that is still growing in popularity, it already has some big name partners including: Target, Macyâ??s, Best Buy, Old Navy, American Eagle and JCPenny to name a few.
In addition to the points, itâ??s simply a fun app to use to shop. They have galleries of items available at participating stores. They even have recipes with detailed images of the ingredients (that can be bought at participating stores).
Now, what most people Iâ??ve mentioned this app to have wondered, what are the points good for? Anyone whoâ??s watched â??Whoâ??s Line Is It Anywayâ?? knows that points can mean absolutely nothing, but thatâ??s not the case with ShopKick. You can collect and exchange points for gift cards to Target, Starbucks, JCPenny and other stores. Or, you can use them for many of the items offered like jewelry, sneakers or designer goods.
Personally, Iâ??m having fun with this app. It didnâ??t cost me anything to download and there are no fees to participate. Iâ??m looking forward to seeing how many points I can rack up on my upcoming shopping trip, who knows I might have that Best Buy gift card I have my eye on before the weekend is over.
