The 55th Annual Ford Fireworks Presented by Target event is scheduled to start at nightfall Monday.
Detroit Mayor Dave Bing's office says about one million people in the city and across the Detroit River in Windsor, Ontario, Canada, will gather to view the fireworks.
The show celebrates the July 4 U.S. Independence Day and Canada Day on July 1.
The Downtown Windsor Business Improvement Association on Friday donated more than $5,000 to Detroit to help cover security. Detroit police will be assisted by other local, state and federal agencies.
At 6 p.m. Monday an emergency curfew also will be in effect for unaccompanied minors aged 17 and younger.
