11-year-old boy critical after van crashes into front-end loader

Vienna Township -- An 11-year-old boy is fighting for his life after a dangerous crash this morning.

A Chevrolet Uplander crashed into a front-end loader on Saginaw Street near the Dort Highway merger in Vienna Township.

Police said the front-end loader was parked facing southbound in the northbound lane to help someone else out of a ditch.

A mother and three children from Mt. Morris were in the Uplander. An 11-year-old boy in the minivan is in critical condition.

Authorities said weather could have played a role in the crash.

"This being a mixture of snow, ice type of a situation today it's extremely slippery," said Clio Fire Chief Gary Domerese. "It'll grab your steering wheel and pull you off to the side, so you really have to stay on top of your game. Stay off the phone, pay attention to what you're doing."

The operator of the front-end loader was taken in on a bench warrant.
