15 firefighter jobs saved in Saginaw

15 firefighter jobs have been saved in Saginaw thanks to a $2.3 million federal grant.

Tom Raines, president of the Saginaw Firefighters Union, says the grant covers 15 jobs for the next two years.

15 firefighters were slated for layoffs come July 1.

Raines also says at least one of the two firehouses slated for closure will remain open. City Manager Darnell Earley called for the closure of two firehouses and the layoff of 15 firefighters amid a multi-million dollar budget deficit.

The grant comes from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
