3-year-old boy dies in house fire

SANILAC COUNTY, Mich. --Sanilac County Sheriff's Office reports a 3-year-old boy died in an early morning fire Monday, Dec. 18.

The fire happened around 1:10 a.m., in the 300 block of West Snover Road.

Sheriff’s Deputies were called to the scene along with Sandusky Fire. When emergency crews arrived at the scene, it was discovered that the house on fire was occupied at the time. Sanilac County Sheriff's Office says a 29-year-old father, a 25-year-old mother and a 1-year-old child were able to get out of the house, however, there was a 3-year-old boy who was still in the residence.

According to Sgt. Mike Moore, when Deputies’ arrived, the house and car in the driveway were fully engulfed. In speaking with the family, it was learned that the 3-year-old was the only person still in the house and it was relayed to fire personnel upon their arrival as to where the child was the last known to be in the house.

When fire crews were able to enter the home, they located the 3-year-old boy on the floor in the southwest bedroom of the home, deceased.

The Sheriff’s Office Arson Investigation Team, Detective Bureau, and the State Fire Marshall were requested and responded to the scene.

The 3-year-old boy was removed from the scene, pending an autopsy scheduled for later in the week. The 29-year-old male, 25-year-old woman and 1-year-old son were transported to an area hospital treatment for their injuries.

The fire is still under investigation.
