      4 to 15 years for Ex-Freeland teacher's sex crimes

A former Freeland teacher will spend at least four years in prison for having sex with one of her students.

The victim is a 16 year old male who is the son of a Michigan State Police officer.

The teen wasn't in the courtroom Wednesday, because his lawyer says he shouldn't have to talk about his sexual experiences in front of a room full of strangers.

Former Freeland High School English teacher Marcie Rousseau could spend between four and 15 years in prison for having sex several times with a male student.

We are very happy with the outcome in this case, it's what I TMve been working for in the beginning, said Midland County Assistant Prosecutor, Angelina Scarpelli.

33-year-old Rousseau pleaded no contest Wednesday to three counts of third degree criminal sexual conduct.

The plea was made before Circuit Judge Jonathan Lauderbach.

"Ms. Rousseau, do you understand what a no contest plea is? said Circuit Judge Jonathan Lauderbach. Yes?" said Rousseau.

Midland County Assistant Prosecutor Angelina Scarpelli says the outcome of Wednesday TMs hearing is very appropriate.

People obviously don't want to go to court to talk about their sexual acts and their private lives, so to keep a 16 year old boy out of court, so that he doesn't have to come here in front of a room full of strangers and talk about this is a positive thing, said Scarpelli.

During the hearing incident reports were brought up from Tittabawassee Township Police, the judge stated that there was evidence that Rousseau had sex with the minor here at the Midland Resort in 2009.

Other reports indicate Rousseau had sex with the Freeland student at the Holiday Inn in Midland and on a two-track road on Seven Mile and Kent.

Scarpelli says the teen is trying to live life one day at a time.

Even though our kids are 16,17,18 years old when they are in high school , they are still kids and they are still very easily swayed by those people who are giving them grades, helping them get into college, said Scarpelli.

Meantime, this grandmother of a Freeland High School student says she's uneasy about what happened.

You worry about all the teachers and all the adults that your children are with," said Barb Jezowski, the grandmother of a Freeland High School student.

Judge Lauderbach will sentence Rousseau on December 16.

Rousseau TMs lawyer declined to make a comment to the media.

Scarpelli says prosecutors in Saginaw may also consider a plea deal, where Rousseau is scheduled to stand trial January 4 for 21 other counts of sex crimes with the same student.

The judge refused to put Rousseau in jail because she did not force or coerce the student to have sex with her.
