$700 Million Consumers Energy plant promising jobs now on hold

A major blow to the Genesee County announced moments ago:a $700 million dollar power plant, planned near Flint, has been put on hold.

Consumers Energy says it will purchase a plant in its hometown of Jackson.

In a statement it says it will place on hold plans for a new $700 million gas plant in Thetford Township.

When it was announced last year, local leaders praised the proposed plant for creating new jobs, and an increase in property taxes.

At the time time, Consumers Energy officials said the plant would bring in more than $300 million to Genesee County's I-75 Corridor, create about 600 construction jobs, and an estimated thirty permanent operating jobs.

We'll have more on this developing story on NBC 25 at 6pm with Bill Harris.
