A slippery Wednesday for drivers

More snow is already moving into western Michigan. This will continue eastward overnight with minor accumulations.

The National Weather Service office in Detroit has issued a special weather statement for the potential for slick roads developing overnight into Wednesday morning.

This statement applies to the Tri-Cities area, the Thumb area, the I-69 corridor counties (including Genesee), and Gratiot county.

Although snowfall overnight is generally only expected to amount to an inch or less, the snow is falling with pavement temperatures just above freezing.

That means much of the snow will melt as it falls on the roads, and re-freeze by daybreak once colder temperatures arrive.
