Abuelazam sentenced to life in prison without parole

Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton moves into his office after the sentencing for comments.

Accused killer, Elias Abuelazam, 35, has been sentenced to life in prison without parole for the 2010 stabbing death of 49 yo. Arnold Minor.

Abuelazam attended the sentencing in orange prison garb, in shackles with heavy security.

During the sentencing Monday morning, Minor's mother, Elzora Minor, collapsed in court grieving the loss of her son.

Minor's sister, Stephanie Ward told the court she hopes Abuelazam "rots in hell."

Abuelazam's lawyers tried to convince jurors that he was a paranoid schizophrenic controlled by demons during the stabbing spree. But the jury agreed with experts who interview Abuelazam and had a different opinion about his mental health.

During the trial, Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton said, "certainly in my eight years as prosecuting attorney this is the most intense manhunt that I'd ever seen by law enforcement and one of the most intense prosecutions that I've supervised and participated in.

Abuelazam is charged with two more murders and seven attempted murders, including one in Toledo, Ohio.

The Genesee County Prosecutor's Office has not decided whether or not they will try Abuelazam in the other cases.
