Afternoon thunderstorms leave thousands without power

Thousands are without power after thunderstorms moved through the Tri-Cities Friday afternoon. Crews were out in Bay City with chainsaws to clean up after the fast-moving storms knocked down trees and power lines.

The storms brought high winds and heavy rains, causing widespread power outages in Bay City. Bay City resident Sherry Cubic said, â??The trees, the wind, the rain, it was all within seconds, it was just really, really fast."

Bay City officials advise residents to expect long delays as Bay City Electric Light and Power, Bay City Public Works and Bay City Public Safety work to restore power and restore power.

As of 10 p.m., about 5,820 Consumers Energy customers were without power; 5,401 in Genesee County; 2,273 in Saginaw County and 1,651 in Midland County.
