Arraignment delayed in killing of Michigan trooper

Eric and Sarah Knysz are facing charges surrounding the murder of Michigan State Trooper Paul Butterfield.

An arraignment hearing has been delayed for a man accused of fatally shooting a Michigan state trooper.

Mason County District Court Magistrate Patricia Baker says Eric Knysz is having more surgery and won't be arraigned on Thursday.

The 19-year-old is under police guard at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City, where he's recovering from a gunshot wound he sustained before his arrest on Monday.

Knysz is charged with first-degree murder in the death of Trooper Paul Butterfield, who was shot in the head during a traffic stop Monday in Sherman Township, about 80 miles north of Grand Rapids.

Twenty-year-old Sarah Knysz is charged with helping her husband try to escape.

There's no indication that either has a lawyer.

Butterfield's funeral is Saturday at Manistee High School.
