On the night Flint's new fire chief called for a crackdown on arson fires in the city, at least 7 fires were reported. Most appear to be arson.
Fire officials say the first fire started around 10 pm Wednesday on Fleming Street. They they occurred frequently after that. Caniff Street was next. Then Woodbridge. Later, a fire on Stewart Street.
The fifth fire of the night occurred at the Flying Wheels Motorcycle Club at Franklin and Delaware. Officials at the club say it had just been remodeled. The fire was so intense, crews were called in from the city of Burton, as well as Mt. Morris and Genesee Townships.
Later there was a fire at a house on Burger. Then crews were called back to a home on Stewart at Proctor.
Battalion Chief Dorian Green had a statement for the people who are lighting the fires. "Please stop. You're putting lives in danger".
A neighborhood resident, Corey Anderson, also called for an end to the arson fires. He says they seem to be going "on and on."
On Wednesday, Flint's new fire chief David Cox says the department is canvassing neighborhoods to cut down on arson fires. Meanwhile, later this month: Angel's Night, which used to be known as "Devil's Night", when a rash of arson fires have occurred in the past.
