Two men wearing Halloween masks attempted to rob an insurance agency in Bay County Wednesday night.
Witnesses say they heard two loud bangs and had no idea they were gunshots. "We were sitting with the kids and the kids heard two pops and the kids thought it must be fireworks," said homeowner, Bryon Christilaw.
"Well when the cop cars pulled up, I said it wasn't fireworks."
The Bay County Sheriff's Department and Michigan State Police were called to the 200 block of West Midland Road for an attempted robbery.
It's a scene Bryon Christilaw of Auburn says is uncommon in his neighborhood; police cars and canine units. "We didn't see any yelling or commotion or anything like that," said Christilaw.
Michigan State Police say two men wearing Halloween masks stormed into Evergreen Insurance Agency around 7:00 p.m.
Richard Creed is listed as the owner of Evergreen Insurance. Witnesses say Creed, who has been in business in the community for at least 13 years was inside his business Wednesday night.
According to police one of the suspects was shot during the attempted robbery. Police won't say who shot him, but the suspect was taken to the hospital. The other suspect ran from the scene.
Behind a hotel near the insurance agency police found gloves, a sweatshirt, and a Halloween mask.
Christilaw and other residents say it's all pretty scary. "I hope I don't see this again, it's normally a quiet little town and I would like it to stay that way," said Christilaw.
Update 11:10 p.m.- It is believed that police have the "suspect at large" in custody, and he is suffering from hypothermia.
