Beaver trapping expected to become legal in Michigan

The Michigan House has voted to end a prohibition against fur dealers trapping beavers.

The House voted 102-8 Thursday for legislation now going to Gov. Rick Snyder, who's expected to sign it. The bill could affect 375 people who have fur dealer licenses in Michigan but can't simultaneously trap beavers.

The bill's sponsor is Republican Sen. Tom Casperson of Escanaba, and he says the current law is outdated.

The state Department of Natural Resources and hunting groups support the legislation.
