Berston Field House celebrates 90 years

Flint's historic recreation center is celebrating 90 years.

The Berston Field House marked the occasion along with the Chosen Few Arts Council Saturday with a day-long open house with the help of a $3,000 grant from the Community Foundation of Greater Flint.

Families enjoyed various activities, a bounce house face-painting...and live entertainment.

Flint's golden girl, boxing champion and Olympic gold medalist Claressa Shields and former Flintstone Mateen Cleaves are just two of the great athletes who trained at Berston Field House.

Organizers of the celebration say the goal is to make the public aware of the affordable, educational programs the Berston Field House offers.

"We felt that it was important to have this for the community to come out and reminisce and enjoy all of the things that we used to do here and are still doing here,â?? said Valorie Horton with the Chosen Few Arts Council.

The celebration was free and open to the public.
