Many people have already taken out their boats to get a jump start on boating season. However, before you hit the waves, there are a few things you need to pack.
Tyronza Snowden who said he has been boating since 1986, told NBC25 he knows what he needs for safety and survival.
"Make sure that all my gear is in the boat that I need. Like my life jacket, preserves and make sure my battery is good," Tyronza Snowden said.
www.boatingsafety.com reports that there are a few more items you need to check off your list.
For instance flotation devices, navigation lights and shapes, fire extinguishers, visual distress signals, ventilation, backfire flame arrester, anchor and an anchor line, among others. Most importantly could be your cell phone.
"I got totally turned around from where I launched the boat and I could not find my way back," Snowden added.
Lastly, always tell someone where you are.
