Authorities say they've identified a body that was found in 1986 in Monroe County as that of a missing suburban Detroit woman.
The sheriff's department says the identification of Ruth Sharon Hoffman of River Rouge was recently made following a combined effort by the department, the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System, Michigan State Police and other officials.
The body found in December 1986 in Exeter Township, about 35 miles southwest of Detroit, previously was listed as unidentified.
The department says current DNA technology was used to make the identification.
Hoffman's death is under investigation by sheriff's departments in Monroe and Wayne counties. Tips are being sought from the public.
