Boy struck, killed by car on busy Flint road

Authorities say an 11-year-old boy has died after being struck by a vehicle crossing a busy Flint street.

An 11-year-old boy has died, officials say, after being struck by a vehicle while crossing Dort Highway in Flint.

Quantavian Jones was trying to cross the busy road on Wednesday when he was struck by a Lexus. The driver of the Lexus, a 72-year-old woman, stopped to help.

Police do not believe alcohol, drugs or speed was a factor.

The boy, authorities say, was walking his sister to a store. He apparently did not see the oncoming vehicle when he stepped out in front of it.

This is the third child to have died this summer from Freeman Elementary in Flint.

One boy was killed as part of a triple homicide in mid-July. The second, a 12-year-old girl, was killed later in the same week, along with her mother.
