Buena Vista Schools said in a press release that due to major budget shortfalls they would not be able to their staff on May 24.
The school says a combination of lowered enrollment combined with state budget cuts have left them short of money to operate.
Additionally the school had been receiving money from the state in order to send teachers to the Wolverine Secure Treatment Center, something the school had stopped doing. The school reported the mistake in funds received to the state.
This means, however, that the school will receive no state funding for April, May and June.
Buena Vista Schools went on to say that they are taking the first steps toward confirming a financial emergency with the state.
