Buena Vista Twp. Police Chief fired

Buena Vista Township Police Chief Brian Booker was fired Wednesday morning.

Township Manager Bregette Braddock told NBC25 it was for "personnel" reasons and would not comment any further. She said Detective Kevin Kratz will replace him as acting police chief.

Booker could not be reached for comment but NBC25 obtained a letter he wrote to Braddock in October of 2011. In it, he discussed his disappointment and disagreement about a previous performance evaluation.

"This appraisal makes it look like performance has dramatically deteriorated in all kinds of ways when it has not."

This is the second blow to the police department in less than six months. Officer Ken Bluew was arrested in September 2011 for allegedly murdering his pregnant mistress Jenny Webb.

Board of Trustee Gloria Platko said Booker kept up morale in the department during the investigation of Bluew. Platko says she's very upset about Booker's firing and feels the board should have been notified prior to action be taken.

"I have a lot of investigating to do in the next few days," said Platko.

Platko plans to take up the issue at the next board meeting.

Booker became police chief in 2005. Prior to that, he spent nearly 20 years as a Saginaw Police officer.
