Police are investigating after a body was found in a burned car on M-13 north of the Zilwaukee Bridge.
Saginaw County Sheriff William Federspiel says a call came in at 4:22 a.m. Monday morning for reports of a burned car in Zilwaukee Township along the Saginaw River.
When authorities arrived, they determined the back seat of the Cadillac contained charred remains of a human body. The body was so badly burned that it is beyond recognition. "It appears that the body is laying in the back seat, very badly burned. But, as you can see where the vehicle is now, we're investigating everything from where it left the road to how it ended up here," said Sheriff Federspiel.
The owners of the Cadillac were eventually found alive and well in Bay County.
Michigan State Police are working with the sheriff TMs department investigating this case. An autopsy is being performed on the body found in the car. The person's identity is expected to be released Tuesday.
