Casino donates 200 turkeys to Food Bank of Eastern Michigan

The FireKeeper Casino in Battle Creek will donate turkeys to the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan as part of a statewide effort to bring holiday cheer to those in need.

The 200 turkeys will help fill the hunger gap for a number of agencies that the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan distributes food to weekly.

FireKeepers Casino Hotel in Battle Creek is owned and operated by the Nottawaseppi Huron Band of the Potawatomi.

A total of 1,000 turkeys are being donated to five food banks in Michigan and Indiana.

For the third consecutive year, FireKeepers Casino Hotel has made an effort to contribute to area food banks prior to the start of the holiday season. Since opening, FireKeepers Casino Hotel has made a concerted effort to contribute to local communities, including distributions to the FireKeepers Local Revenue Sharing Board, distributions to the State of Michigan, as well as focusing business operations on local spending.

"As we enter the holiday season, we are thankful for the success FireKeepers has enjoyed and take pride in having the opportunity to give back to surrounding communities," CEO of FireKeepers R. Bruce McKee said.

Established in 1981, the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan has grown into a major affiliate of Feeding America, the nation's food bank network.
