Michael Crawford was arraigned in 67th District Court this morning. Crawford was charged with open murder. He also received two felony firearm charges, in relation to the death of 33-year-old Lejuan Covington.
Court records indicate Crawford lived near the home where Covington was killed.
Mt. Morris Township police said Covington was shot around noon last Friday in a home in the 6100 block of Stem Lane.
A Mount Morris Township family is reeling after a shooting around noon Friday. The family met with NBC 25's Josh Marshall today, identifying the victim as Lejuan Covington.
Lejuan Covington??s family is together, trying to work through what they call a nightmare.
"Walked in there and snuffed him out with his kids and his momma there, that??s heartless," said Melody Covington.
First responders arrived on scene around noon Friday, finding Covington suffering from gunshot wounds. He was sent to Hurley medical center where he was later pronounced dead.
"He was good to everybody, everybody loved Lejuan everybody loved my child and they took him away from us," said Melody.
Covington??s older brother Melvin remembering the last time he saw his brother.
"I had seen him a few days before all this happened and he was just happy, he was just happy man," said Melvin Covington.
The family is calling for justice, and falling back on each other for strength.
"We just gotta stay strong for each other and deal with it, it was a senseless act and I just hate that it happened to by brother like that," said Melvin.
The police department is not releasing any more information about the incident other than it is being investigated as a homicide. A vigil will be held for Lejuan Covington tomorrow night at 6.
