Church groups encourage "safe havens" to the streets

Flint's East side church organizations are making a statement.

They want young people to know there are places they can go that provide a safe alternative to the streets.

A group of pastors and children walked through Flint Saturday passing several "safe havens."

They walked from Davison and Franklin Roads to the new teen center by the East Side Mission.

"It's about relationships and its about white, black no matter what denomination coming together for the common good," said Pastor Bob Cattane, New Life Church of the Nazarene.

The group wants to hold more events like Saturday's to let Flint youth know there are safe places they can go.
