The city of Flushing is issuing a public health advisory after its sanitary system discharged some untreated sewage into the Flint River.
The cityâ??s public works department said heavy rain caused the system to exceed its capacity. A press release states the city discharged rain-diluted untreated sanitary sewage from its sanitary system. The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality and the Genesee County Health Department have been notified.
Residents are advised not to have contact with the Flint River downstream of the release.
