Community raises funds after teen's death

Community members in Swartz Creek came together to help a family mourning the loss of 19-year-old Jacob Knapp, who died in April after battling heroin abuse.

Jakeâ??s family now faces mounting expenses for his funeral, but the community has since rallied around them and coined a phrase, "Jake loves you."

Friday night, a spaghetti fundraiser was held at the American Legoin hall to help offset some costs.

People who knew Jake say he was a bright teenager who loved sports and that they hope amid the tragedy, his death will help other people struggling with drugs and addiction to get clean.

Event organizer Dedee Osher said, "If one person hears that you know what, â??Jake loves you, and he's gone now,â?? and it stops one person from doing something that's going to harm themselves, then that's really important."

If you would like to help the Knapp family, you can make a donation through PayPal. Email or call Dedee Osher at 810-845-7534 or Shari Gordon-Jarema at 586-839-0131.
