Construction on water pipeline begins Friday

It's been talked about for years. Debated. Discussed. On Friday the hemming and hawing is over. Here comes the new pipeline.

Ground will be broken on a 1 point 9 billion dollar water pipeline from Lake Huron to Flint. The Karagondi Water Pipeline will service Genesee, Lapeer and Sanilac Counties, along with the City of Flint. Organizers of the project claim it will create up to one thousand new jobs.

For years, the region has been getting its water frm Detroit. Flint and Genesee officials claimed Detroit was charging too much for water, but there's nothing they could do. Except build their own pipeline. So they will starting Friday. But it hasn't been easy.

It's a 25 year contract for water.

Federal, state and local leaders will join Genesee County Drain Commissioner Jeff Wright for a groundbreaking on Friday near Lake Huron at Fisher Road and M-25.
