Construction to begin on US-23 bridge in Arenac

The Michigan Department of Transportation plans to begin construction work on a US-23 bridge over the Rifle River in Arenac County.

The project is set to get underway near Omer on Monday. MDOT says it will "improve road quality and increase motorist safety."

Sidewalks across the bridge will be closed for the duration of the project, which is to wrap up in late October.

One alternating lane of traffic will be open across the bridge using a temporary signal until Aug. 29. At that time, all lanes will re-open across the bridge for about two weeks to accommodate Labor Day traffic.

According to MDOT, one lane will then be open in each direction across the bridge from Sept. 10 until construction is completed.

Omer is 70 miles north of Flint.
