Opinion Piece Author: Kris Russo, NBC25 Account Executive

PhoneThe Verizon Wireless Nokia Lumina is a great phone for someone upgrading in the world of Windows based phones.

DesignThe Verizon Wireless Nokia Lumina is powered by a 2.2GHz quad-core processor which is extremely fast and also helps with battery life. It does have 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal memory, but it can also handle up to a 64GB microSD card for everything else that needs to be stored. The microSD card is sold separately.

Looking at the device, screen on top, the power/sleep button is on the right-side of the phone in the middle; the volume toggle is on the upper right side. The charging port is in the center on the bottom. On the top in the center is a 3.5mm headphone jack. The SIM card slot is on the top right side. The quick launch camera button can be found at the lower right hand side of the device. This is an awkward spot for it to sit, because it is constantly being pushed whenever holding the phone. Good thing it doesnâ??t hang up on the call when it is hit accidently.

The Verizon Wireless Nokia Lumina has 32GB of internal storage; however, what is actually formatted is going to be about 24GB, give or take a little.

DisplayThe Verizon Wireless Nokia Lumina screen is a full 5â?? 1080p OLED glare-free screen. The phone is on the chunky side and makes it slightly uncomfortable to hold and maneuver for extended periods of time.

CameraThe Verizon Wireless Nokia Lumina camera is a 20 megapixels with a duel LED flash. The front-facing camera is a 1.2 MP and can be used for still pictures as well as video. An extra feature for the Windows Smartphone is the option to download different Lenses for the camera via the Windows Phone Store. There are Smart Shoot, Panorama, and Cinema-graph Lenses just to name a few.

Battery LifeSmart-phone users have concluded by now that no matter the phone in use, it will have to charge every day. However, with each new phone release the batteries seem to get better and last longer.

The Verizon Wireless Nokia Lumina has a 2420mAh Li-Ion battery. It does, however, depend on how itâ??s used as to how long it will last. If it is running on Wi-fi it could last all day easily; however, if it runs on 4G all day it seemed to last about 8 hours before it needed to be charged. The phone also comes preset for Qi wireless charging which is nice.

InterfaceVerizon Wireless Nokia Lumina is running the latest version the Windows Phone OS, Windows 8. The Windows Phone OS offers features that cannot be found anywhere else. Some of the great features:

      1. Live Tile - design that gives the latest News, Weather, Status Updates, or anything else that someone would need at a glance. There is an amazing feature to sync Facebook, Twitter, Outlook all to one location so everything can be all found in one place with just one click.
      2. Data Sense â?? This is a great way to monitor the data usage through the month to make sure that no overages.
      3. Kidâ??s Corner - Allows Kids to only use the apps/music/games that the parent sees fit.
      4. Xbox LIVE â?? Windows Phone OS are the only ones to have built in and has one touch access from the home screen.
      5. Sky Drive â?? Allows documents and pictures to be saved in one place and opened up via an app on the device, this saves the limited memory on the phone.

There are many more features to experience and utilize.

The Windows Phone Store features more than 120,000 apps to pick from with more that are added daily. In order to access the internet/app store/Xbox Live feature a Microsoft email is required. Also make sure that the email is the same one that is tied to the Xbox or that feature will not show up correctly.

The SkyDrive feature will still come in handy is a good way to keep the phone storage and the SD storage clean for whatever it may be needed for in a pinch!

WebVerizon Wireless Nokia Lumina features Microsoft Internet Explorer 10 and has all the same features as the desk top version and also includes a pinch-zoom feature for web pages it allows for zooming in and out as much as needed. There is a nice screenshot of bookmarked pages, and they can all be viewed in landscape or vertical configurations. That makes it easy to jump to the favorite pages easily.

ConclusionThe Verizon Wireless Nokia Lumina is a nice phone although a bit on the heavy side. It is a definite learning curve for someone who is a seasoned Droid or iPhone user. It takes a little bit of patience and time to get used to the changes but it is a strong, powerful phone with some great potential.
