A Michigan judge has ruled that the mother of a 4-year-old boy won't be allowed to withdraw her guilty plea in the 2010 beating death of her 4-year-old son.
Genesee County Circuit Judge Richard Yuille on Tuesday said Corrine Baker should "feel lucky" for the sentence of at least 13 years in prison for failing to intervene while Dominick Calhoun was beaten to death by a boyfriend.
Baker had asked to withdraw her plea, saying her trial lawyer was ineffective.
Brandon Hayes got life in prison for murder, while Baker's sentence for second-degree murder reflected a deal with prosecutors.
In April 2010, Dominick's aunt found him unconscious on the floor in an apartment in Genesee County's Argentine Township.
