Crim Festival events kickoff

Festivities began for the Crim Festival.

Supporters and participants of this year's Crim Race crowded Flint's Riverfront Conference Center today.

The Commit to Fit Health and Fitness Expo kicked off the Crim Festival and even included the unveiling of a statue of Bobby Crim, the festival's founder and namesake.

Participants picked up their race packets and checked out vendors during the Aug. 21 festivities. Organizers said the kickoff was a great way to get people excited about the big race weekend.

â??Itâ??s awesome,â?? said Allison Raridan, Commit to Fit project manager. â??Itâ??s very exciting and there are so many people and itâ??s great to see everybody getting out and being active and doing it with friends and family.â??

The first Crim Race event takes place Aug. 22 with the Lois Craig â??Special Olympianâ?? invitational and several professional and amateur one-mile races.

The festival will continue through Aug. 23 with no less than eight race/walk events that get underway at 7:30 a.m.
