The Michigan Secretary of State's office has dismissed a complaint filed by Democrats in July related to Republican U.S. Senate candidate Terri Lynn Land.
Secretary of State spokesman Fred Woodhams tells MLive DOT com in an email the complaint was dismissed because the state's Bureau of Elections "doesn't have the authority to have a committee that dissolved three years ago file new reports or change existing ones."
In a statement, Democrats called the decision "pure politics."
Land is a former Secretary of State. Democrats had requested that current Secretary of State Ruth Johnson, a Republican, investigate donations Land made to Land's own 2002 secretary of state campaign indicating she was an employee of the family's real estate business.
Land has said she wasn't employed by the company.
