Demolition is underway at Flint's closed Cody Elementary School.
The work began several weeks ago with preparing the inside of the building and now crews are taking down exterior walls.
The building has been closed for about ten years.
"It's really bittersweet for out community to have to see Cody Elementary be torn down but for the safety of our community I think it's gonna be a lot better to have it taken down," Flint City Council President Scott Kinkaid said.
The demolition is expected to last until the end of the month. There are no plans yet for the property.
