Drivers start their holiday treks for July 4


e are almost upon the Fourth of July holiday, and Mid-Michigan is gearing up for long weekends, fireworks celebrations, barbeques and patriotic parades to mark our nation's independence.

It also means travelers are taking to area roads, and construction projects are temporarily halted or restricted so that drivers can make their way a bit easier when work lets out and families get away.

Gas prices have also risen overnight by as much as 20 cents, leaving some to question whether they ought to take that summer trip. And weather may play a role today in the form of thunderstorms.

Tonight on NBC25 News at 6, Brittany Shannon takes to Michigan's highways and checks in with drivers who are making the most of their holiday plans.
