Eight area dads honored as 'Outstanding Fathers'

They bring home the bacon and give back to the community - we're talking about outstanding fathers.

Thursday evening, eight fathers from the Great Lakes Bay Region were honored at Crumbs Gourmet Cafe in Saginaw by the Power of Dad organization, founded by former CMU running back Brian Pruitt.

The nonprofitâ??s mission is to foster good relationships between fathers and their children and also to mentor fatherless youth. Honorees were nominated not only for being great dads, but also for their community service and work with other youth.

Gregory Baugh is a youth minister in Saginaw and a father of five. "I'm just humbled just to be amongst these guys,â?? Baugh said. â??I know that there's someone out there that's more deserving than myself but it's an honor just to be here."

â??Quite a few of them come back and actually just get involved with our fatherless boys and begin to just be role models and mentors to them as well,â?? Pruitt said.

The dads will be formally recognized on February 15 at the Horizons Conference Center. This is the third year Power of Dad recognized outstanding area fathers.

Other honorees were Adam Bailey, Brian Cole, Jimmy Greene, David Grzegorczyck, Brian Jackson, James Moore and Gary Rechsteiner.
