Eight candidates will face off in next week's primary to take over the vacated seat in the 49th state House district.
Tuesday evening the Genesee County Association of School Board Members and the League of Women Voters invited the two Republicans and six Democrats to a candidate forum.
Republicans Patrick Duvendeck and Don Pfeiffer and Democrats Dan Hipkins, Eli Isaguirre, Karyn Miller, Phil Phelps, Trevor Rodgers and Don Wright talked about public education, jobs, health care and other issues.
â??This is a very important election because your narrowing down the field from eight to two, one from each party, there are two candidates from the Republicans and six from the Democratic Party in the primary, and its very important to select who your final candidates are for the up coming election in November,â?? said Linda Hoff, president of the Flint Area League of Women Voters.
The winners of next Tuesday's primary will face off in the November election for the seat State Senator Jim Ananich vacated earlier this year.
