Extent of tornado damage becoming known as day breaks

Two confirmed tornadoes and strong storms hit Genesee County last night causing wide-spread damage and power-outages

No injuries have been reported at this time.

Consumers Energy says there are about 7,400 still without power as of 8:30 this morning.

They told NBC25 that power poles had been snapped because of the high winds. They estimate that power should be restored by 11 tonight.

One tornado struck the Beecher area, not far from where a devastating tornado struck on June 8, 1953.

Another tornado formed in Grand Blanc and traveled, gaining power and speed, over to Goodrich.

Homes were damaged and destroyed and trees were downed.

Shannon Adams of Fenton described what it was like to NBC25, "We got to the basement and just kind of hung out down there. It got real quiet all of the sudden ... things got real still, heard all this win, walls started creaking, sounded like the roof was going to come off."

Stay with NBC25 online and on the air as we continue to cover the extent of the damage throughout the day.
