Family loses puppies, home and dog in afternoon fire

Family loses puppies, home and dog in afternoon fire (WEYI)

A family...heartbroken tonight after losing their home, new puppies, and the family dog in an afternoon fire.

"Nothing, they have nothing," says grandmother Denise Jean-Labelle. "Buck, their dog, was everything to all of them."

Crews were called to the scene around 2 p.m. and volunteer firefighters from several different jurisdictions joined in to battle the blaze.

Unfortunately, Garfield Township fire chief Brad Hoffman says the house was already too far gone.

"It was fully involved," Hoffman said. "There was no chance of any pets making it in the house."

While this grandmother will have to figure out how to explain the fire to her young grandchildren, she says her family is tough...and they don't plan on changing that anytime soon.
