Family safe after plane crashes in Frankenmuth

Frankenmuth fire officials tell NBC25 a family of four is safe and uninjured after a plane crash Wednesday evening.

It happened around 7 p.m. near the intersection of Jefferson and Conway, south of the Cass River. Frankenmuth police and fire responded to the scene. Authorities say the pilot was having mechanical issues and landed the aircraft in a cornfield and let the plane skid. All of the occupants - a family from Millington - were safely escorted from the scene.

Frankenmuth Fire Chief John Deterding said, "Everybody walked away, it was a husband and wife, two kids, the younger kid was excited, thought it was pretty cool. The other kid says, â??I'm never flying with you again, Dad.â??"

Police have not identified the type of aircraft. The Federal Aviation Sdministration has been notified and will investigate the cause of the accident.
