Elderly man dies following Christmas Eve crash in Vassar

VASSAR, Mich. -- ***UPDATE***

The Tuscola County Sheriff has updated information about the deadly crash that took place in Vassar.

The accident took place around 1:45 p.m.

He was traveling northbound on Atkins Road, stopped at the stop sign and proceeded to the intersection.

His van was hit by a 2017 Dodge Ram traveling southeast on M-15.

There were four people in the truck at the time.

The driver, a 46-year-old man from Lapeer, was taken to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

City of Vassar police confirmed that an elderly man is dead following this accident.

Two cars were involved, and the accident was weather-related.

It happened in the area of Atkins and West Saginaw Road (M-15) in Vassar around 2 p.m. Sunday.

M-15 between Atkins and Cottrell Drive is currently closed.
