Father accused of attacking son with claw hammer held on bond

Jeffery Lyn Barager, 50, faces several assault charges after allegedly trying to kill his son.


A man accused of trying to kill is son was arraigned Tuesday.

Fifty-year-old Jeffery Lyn Barager was arraigned in Isabella County Court on several charges including assault with intent to murder.

Barager's 27-year-old son told police Barager attacked him with a claw hammer on Saturday after a heated argument in Wise Township.

Barager remains in the Isabella County jail on $600,000 bond.

A preliminary examination regarding the case is scheduled for Thursday, March 21.

In Isabella County, state police have arrested a father for allegedly trying to murder his son.

Police say a 50-year-old attacked his 27-year-old son with a claw hammer after a heated argument in Wise Township.

The victim, from Coleman, called 911, saying he was hit in the head and was covered in blood.

The father is behind bars at the Isabella County Jail.

The victim is recovering at Saint Mary's Hospital in Saginaw.

Police say alcohol may be a factor in the incident.
