Firefighters battle barn blaze this morning in Clio

There was a 5-gallon container of gasoline in the truck of the Jetta.

Firefighters responded to a barn fire this morning in Clio.

The call went out about 5:15 am that a barn was on fire next to a home on the 6400 block of West Farrand Road near Elms Road.

Fire officials told NBC25 that the owner of the barn had just returned home with a 5 gallon container of gas in the trunk of his Volkswagon Jetta.

The fire began in the barn and the owner quickly shut all of the garage doors and exited. Fire officials say this quick thinking likely contained the fire and prevented it from being much worse.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. It took firefighters about 45 minutes to put out the blaze.

There was extensive damage done to the car and some damage to the inside and roof of the barn.
