Fireplaces in downtown Midland to add a touch of warmth for visitors
MIDLAND, Mich. - If you are walking in downtown Midland and looking to get warm you will soon have a place to go.
The new Downtown Midland Streetscape Project is adding some warmth and some character.
With the new $7 million project almost complete fireplaces are now being added around the area.
Gaming tables and specialty benches, or ‘rockers’ as they are called, will also be added to the project.
This was all possible thanks to a challenge grant that encouraged the community to raise $50,000.
That money was matched by local foundations which totaled $200,000.
"We hope that the fireplaces and the gaming tables and the specialty benches will add just that little extra flare. The icing on the cake, so to speak that make people want to be downtown and just make it a little more special,” said community affairs director Selina Tisdale.
The fireplaces should be completed within the next month, just in time to enjoy during the winter months.
You can expect the gaming tables and specialty benches to be done by spring.
