A Saginaw mother welcomed a new bundle of joy to usher in the New Year.
Josiah Scott Gibson was born just an hour after the clock struck midnight. At eight pounds and two ounces and 20-and-a-half inches long, he's the first baby born at Covenant HealthCare Birth Center in 2013.
Mom had to wait a whole week after her due date to meet him though. Sharmese Gibson said Josiah was due the day after Christmas.
Little Josiah was born 12 hours after Covenant welcomed the last baby of 2012, who got special recognition as well. H&R block and a local Girl Scout troop partnered to put together a care package for the 2012 baby girl. The baby's family will earn a $1,000 tax credit - double the tax credit for 2013 babies.
Alexandria Ziegler of Troop 50626 said, "I thought it would be nice to give them a gift because it's a new baby and that baby is a gift to them."
The care package included a bib that reads, ??I'm a new tax deduction,?? and, of course, some Girl Scout cookies for mom.
At Hurley Medical Center a Flushing family welcomed a new baby boy around 2:44 a.m. Alexander John Haack weighed nearly 9 pounds and measured 20 inches long.
"We were expecting him the first of December and so then it's like I made it to Christmas and then it was just a waiting game,?? mother Jennifer Haack said.
NBC25 would like to congratulate all the families that welcomed New Years Day babies.
