Five men charged in string of armed robberies

Three of the five men are being housed in the Genesee County Jail. One is in prison. The other is still at large.

Genesee County Prosecutor, David Leyton, announced that five men have been charged for a string of robberies starting in July 2010 and going to March of this year.

Police say that the man robbed 17 banks and businesses in the City of Flint, Flint Township, and Mt. Morris Township.

Authorities say the robbery of a Citizens Bank in Flint Township and the subsequent arrest of suspects in that robbery that helped authorities piece together all of the cases.

"All these individuals are related to one another and investigators have referred to the criminal enterprise as the 'family business'," said Prosecutor Leyton.

The men worked as a group, the prosecutor says, with two of the men being involved with all robberies and worth in some combination of the other three men.

One of the suspects is currently in prison. Another suspect is still at large.

Each suspect has a range of charges against them, from armed robbery, to racketeering, to weapons offenses. The number of charges on each individual goes from 7 charges all the way up to 40 charges.

The suspects are expected to be arraigned in the 67th and 68th district courts.
