A Flint church is trying to bridge the gap between the end of summer activities and the start of school to keep kids and teens safe.

Pastor Chris Martin and his church, Cathedral of Faith, is offering a "Pray to Play" summer basketball camp for free for boys and girls ages 10-17. The camp begins on July 27 and goes through Aug. 31.

The church is also opening its doors for its ??Super Summer Fun Camp?? for boys and girls ages 5-15. The camp, sponsored by UAW Region 1C begins Monday July 22 and lasts through Aug. 23.

Pastor Martin says programs like these are geared toward keeping kids active and engaged.

??The violence has got to stop, and we've got to provide something for it, we can't just say it has to stop. We??ve got to provide something to make sure that our kids stay involved in something positive and safe,?? Martin said.

The "Pray to Play" summer basketball camp is free. The "Super Summer Fun Camp" costs $7 a week per child.

Anyone interested in registering for either program should call Pastor Chris Martin at 810-458-7718. Cathedral of Faith Ministries Church of God in Christ is located at 6031 Dupont St. in Flint.
