Flint firefighters collecting care packages for troops

Organizers are collecting a number of items including hand warmers, batteries, notebooks and even baked goods.

The Flint Fire Department is joining other community organizations to support local troops serving overseas.

The Flint Firefighter's Union along with Sister Souls, Inc., held its 2nd Annual "Care Packages for Troops in Afghanistan."

The event is held in honor of Staff Sergeant Raymond Plouhar, who was killed by a roadside bomb while serving in Iraq.

The organization is trying to collect 300 holiday care packages to be sent to men and women overseas.

Organizers are collecting everything from hand warmers to magazines, and even baked goods.

If you would like to donate, you can drop items off at Fire Station 1 or the Flint Fire Union Hall. Or you can make a monetary donation online here.
