Flint Police get a major upgrade to their bomb squad

Flint Bomb Squad got a new truck thanks to a Department of Homeland Security grant.

The Flint Police department has a brand new truck for their bomb squad, all thanks to a grant from the Department of Homeland Security.

The state of the art truck is fully equipped with a generator and bomb-detecting robots.

The squad has three officers trained to respond to bomb threats in mid-Michigan.

Officers say the truck is a much-needed improvement.

"We have everything where we need in it. We don't have to load anything. If we get a call, we have it parked in an indoor garage at fire station one. All we have to do is get to the truck and drive it away," said Lt. Bernie of the Flint Bomb Squad.

The squad responds to up to 12 incidents per year.
