Flint police are investigating a homicide on the city's north side. Family members of the victim say they got a call around 9:30 Thursday morning, telling them Sammie McBroom was found dead in his home.

Emotions ran high on Flint's East Genesee Street as police pieced together a crime scene.

??He was a good person. If you needed him, he was always there,?? says Aleanetra Montgomery. ??He never turned you away for anything,?? McBroom??s niece adds.

Family members say someone killed Sammie McBroom. His son tells NBC25 News, McBroom lived here for more than 40 years.

"Very kind, loved, giving,?? says Joseph Marks, the victim??s son.

??He was a good guy, excellent. Never ever did anything to nobody,?? says Montgomery.

The 80-year old was a retired mechanic who loved fixing cars.

??If you've ever seen him, that's all he was doing, was being helpful and working on cars and we miss him already,?? says Montgomery.

Grief spread through the north side neighborhood, as friends learned about the father of three.

??They said his throat was cut, sitting in the chair in there,?? says a neighbor.

Police have not yet confirmed how McBroom was killed. The Michigan State Police crime lab is on scene, assisting with the investigation.

Family members say, whoever did this needs to come forward.

??Just have him turn himself in. Come to a family member. Go downtown, turn yourself in. If you know anything, please,?? says Marks.
