Flint Schools holding community forums on school closures

Parents and faculty were able to give their feedback and ideas on school closures and consolidations at a community forum Monday night.

Flint Community Schools is holding forums throughout the week to get ideas and feedback from the community about the district's budget and school closures.

The district is working with a $3.7 million budget deficit. The district must come up with a plan to try and balance the budget deficit.

Superintendent Linda Thompson said schools will have to be closed but nothing has been decided at this time. Thompson also stressed no decision would be made from the forums.

"Everything is on the table in terms of what school levels we're looking at and how many. We're just going to be looking at the number of youngsters that we have and the needs that we have and the facilities that we don't need in order to serve our kids." said Thompson.
